Bio-Gel Boosts Alfalfa After First Cutting in SE Minnesota

Trial Type: On-Farm Organic Trial
Product: Bio-Gel® YieldArmor
Location: Southeastern Minnesota
Timing: Post-First Cutting Application

Objective

To evaluate the impact of Bio-Gel® YieldArmor on forage yield, nutrient density, and overall quality when applied after the first alfalfa harvest.

Key Results

1. Better Protein and Amino Acid Levels
  • Crude Protein  increased 7% (1.34% uplift)

  • Total Amino Acids increased 6%

    • Lysine  (+7%) – supports growth, milk production, feed efficiency

    • Methionine  (+4%) – improves immune health and protein metabolism

    • Isoleucine (+9%), Leucine (+8%) – essential for energy and muscle building

    • Histidine (+2%) – aids in hemoglobin and young animal development

2. Stronger Micronutrient Profile
  • Calcium (+5%) – enhances structure and palatability

  • Zinc (+7%), Boron (+2%) – support plant growth and mineral density in forage

3. Reduced Salt Load
  • Sodium reduction (-10%)

  • Chloride reduction  (-1%)
Lower salt content helps reduce plant stress and improves feed palatability.

4. Yield & Digestibility Gains
  • Dry Matter Yield increased by 3%

  • Digestible Organic Matter (DOMI) improved by 1%

Conclusion

Bio-Gel® helps alfalfa work harder—both in the field and in the feed bunk. For organic and conventional growers alike, it’s a promising option for boosting both soil health and livestock performance.
